One of the great things about this medium is how personal and deep the exchange can get over the years. On one foot, we could be momentary bits of dust swirling into nothingness; on the other wrist, we are eternal beings, all connected, unlimited in our potential for understanding and connection. One aspect of “modern tattooing” for myself has become working with someone else’s existing work, in addition to working with their ideas. Certainly there’s nothing better than getting a huge canvas with no parameters, but I have found some satisfaction working within parameters as well. Certain aspects of life and the design work which mirrors it has always puzzled me, challenged me, asked me to find beauty within compromise. Asked me to find meaning within chaos, asked me why the loudest voice in my head is always right, especially after I’ve proclaimed it loudly.
